September is the month Indian car dealers clear stock before the festive rush, and this year the electric showroom is where the biggest numbers are. Tata Motors has published a September-only benefits sheet that takes up to Rs 3.35 lakh off a pre-update Curvv EV and Rs 2.75 lakh off a Harrier EV. Mahindra is discounting the outgoing XUV400 by Rs 2.5 lakh in cash. Hyundai and Kia are running smaller, stacked offers on the Creta Electric and Carens Clavis EV, and BYD has a festive package built around finance and warranty rather than a price cut. This guide lays out every verified figure, explains which ones need a trade-in to unlock, and works out what the offers mean against the price hikes that hit Tata and Hyundai EVs earlier this month.
Why the discounts are so large this September
Three things are happening at once. First, Tata updated the Curvv EV with the SeriesX trims, facelifted the Punch EV and Tiago EV, and raised prices across its range from 1 September, which we covered in our look at the Tata and Hyundai EV price hikes from September 2026. That leaves dealers holding pre-update stock that must go before buyers stop asking for it. Second, Mahindra has replaced the XUV400 in its lineup with the BE 6 Sporteq range, so the older car is being run out. Third, showroom footfall in early September is traditionally weak ahead of Navratri and Diwali, and dealers are willing to lock a price now rather than wait for the crowd.
The practical upshot is that the biggest savings are on cars that are one update behind. That is not a bad thing if the update was cosmetic, but it matters when the newer version has a bigger battery or faster charging, which is the case with the Curvv EV SeriesX.
Tata Motors: the full September 2026 benefits sheet
Tata’s offers are the most transparent because the company publishes the components. Every figure below is ex-showroom, valid only through September 2026, and varies by location and stock.
| Model and trim | Maximum benefit | How it is made up | Ex-showroom price band |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harrier EV Fearless and Empowered | Rs 2.75 lakh | Rs 1 lakh intervention offer + up to Rs 75,000 exchange or scrappage + up to Rs 1 lakh loyalty | Rs 21.79 to 29.79 lakh |
| Harrier EV Adventure | Rs 2.5 lakh | Same structure, smaller intervention amount | Rs 21.79 lakh entry |
| Curvv EV pre-SeriesX (except base Creative) | Rs 3.35 lakh | Rs 3 lakh cash + up to Rs 35,000 exchange or scrappage | Rs 17.19 to 19.39 lakh |
| Curvv EV pre-SeriesX Creative | Rs 2.85 lakh | Cash plus exchange | Rs 17.19 lakh |
| Curvv EV SeriesX | Rs 65,000 | Exchange and loyalty only | Current price list |
| Nexon EV (all) | Rs 45,000 | Rs 10,000 cash + up to Rs 35,000 exchange or scrappage | Rs 12.49 to 17.69 lakh |
| Punch EV pre-facelift Long Range | Rs 1.45 lakh | Cash plus exchange | Pre-facelift stock only |
| Punch EV pre-facelift Medium Range | Rs 1.25 lakh | Cash plus exchange | Pre-facelift stock only |
| Punch EV pre-facelift Smart | Rs 95,000 | Cash plus exchange | Pre-facelift stock only |
| Tiago EV pre-facelift XT Long Range | Rs 1.45 lakh | Cash plus exchange | Pre-facelift stock only |
| Tiago EV pre-facelift XZ+ Long Range | Rs 1.25 lakh | Cash plus exchange | Pre-facelift stock only |
| Tiago EV pre-facelift Medium Range | Rs 65,000 | Cash plus exchange | Pre-facelift stock only |
| Punch EV and Tiago EV facelift | None | New stock, list price | Current price list |
Two readings of this table matter. The headline Rs 2.75 lakh on the Harrier EV needs three separate conditions: you must trade in or scrap an older car, you must already own a Tata, and you must buy a mid or top trim. A first-time buyer walking in with no exchange gets the Rs 1 lakh intervention offer and nothing more. The Curvv EV figure is different in character: Rs 3 lakh of the Rs 3.35 lakh is straight cash on the pre-SeriesX car, which is why it is the single largest cash discount on any electric car in India this month.
Is the pre-SeriesX Curvv EV worth Rs 3 lakh less?
The pre-update Curvv EV came with 45 kWh and 55 kWh packs, a 502 km MIDC claim on the larger pack and 70 kW peak DC charging. The SeriesX cars carry revised trims and pricing. If the variant you are offered has the 55 kWh pack, the Rs 3 lakh saving buys the same battery and the same motor as the car it replaced, and at Rs 16.39 lakh effective for a mid trim it undercuts every rival in the segment we compared in our Rs 16 to 25 lakh electric SUV comparison. Ask the dealer for the manufacturing month on the VIN plate. A car built in early 2026 has spent months in a yard and its 12V battery and tyres deserve a check, but the traction battery warranty clock starts at registration, not manufacture.
Mahindra: Rs 2.5 lakh on the XUV400, dealer offers on BE 6 and XEV 9e
Mahindra’s published September offer is a flat Rs 2.5 lakh cash discount on the XUV400 EV in EC Pro and EL Pro trims. The XUV400 is Mahindra’s older NMC-battery SUV with 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh packs and a 456 km claimed range on the larger pack. It has been overtaken in the lineup by the BE 6 Sporteq series that starts at Rs 19.45 lakh, so this is a run-out price. The cash discount does not need a trade-in.
The BE 6 and XEV 9e are listed as carrying “dealer-level offers” without published figures. In practice this means the number varies by city and by how much stock the dealer holds of the pre-Sporteq variants. Mahindra ran benefits of up to Rs 1.55 lakh on both cars in late 2025, and those anniversary offers were tied to delivery deadlines. Do not assume a September 2026 figure until the dealer puts it in writing. If you are weighing the BE 6 on a battery subscription instead, our Mahindra Battery-as-a-Service cost maths shows where the Rs 3.75 per km rental overtakes the upfront saving.
Hyundai and Kia: small, stacked, and mostly conditional
| Model | Cash | Exchange or scrappage | Other | Best case total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Creta Electric | Rs 15,000 | Rs 20,000 scrappage or Rs 15,000 exchange | Rs 15,000 upgrade bonus | Rs 50,000 |
| Kia Carens Clavis EV | Rs 20,000 | Rs 20,000 exchange or Rs 20,000 scrappage | Rs 15,000 corporate + Rs 20,000 loyalty | Rs 95,000 |
| Kia Syros EV | None | None | None | Rs 0 |
The Creta Electric offer is modest because the car is selling on its own terms and Hyundai raised its price in September, a move we tracked in the price hike coverage linked above. The Carens Clavis EV number looks generous on paper but Rs 55,000 of the Rs 95,000 is corporate, loyalty and scrappage money that only some buyers can claim. The Syros EV, launched this year and still fresh, carries no offer at all.
BYD: no price cut, but a package worth pricing out
BYD India’s festive campaign has run since August and continues into September. It does not cut the sticker. Instead it bundles finance from 7.77 per cent, a complimentary two-year maintenance package, an extended warranty to 2,00,000 km, charging coupons on select variants and a gift hamper. The coupon values and the exact variants are not published, and BYD says the package varies by city and dealer.
How to price this: the finance rate is the real money. On a Rs 25 lakh loan over five years, the gap between 7.77 per cent and the 9 to 9.5 per cent that most banks charge on a standard car loan is roughly Rs 85,000 to Rs 1.2 lakh in interest. Our EV loan and insurance guide lists the green-loan rates bank by bank so you can check whether your own bank already beats 7.77 per cent. The two-year maintenance is worth Rs 15,000 to 25,000 on a BYD, since EV services are mostly inspections and cabin filters.
MG: check the dealer, the published figures are from March
MG has not published a September 2026 benefits sheet. The most recent official figures were for March 2026: up to Rs 70,000 on the Windsor EV, up to Rs 60,000 on the Comet EV and up to Rs 1.4 lakh on the ZS EV. Dealers may still be running similar structures, but the Windsor is now a Pro-heavy lineup and the ZS EV is being run down, so treat any number as dealer-specific until you see it on paper. The Hector Tomahawk EV, which we covered at launch in our MG Hector Tomahawk EV report, is on an introductory price and is not discounted.
How to actually claim the maximum benefit
- Bring a car to trade. Every large Tata number and the Hyundai and Kia numbers assume an exchange or a scrappage certificate. Scrappage needs a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility certificate, which takes a few days, and the vehicle must be more than 15 years old for petrol or 10 for diesel in Delhi-NCR, or otherwise unfit.
- Ask which stock the offer applies to. “Pre-SeriesX” and “pre-facelift” mean specific VINs. A dealer can quote the headline figure and then hand you a car that only qualifies for the smaller one.
- Get the on-road quote with and without the offer. Some dealers raise handling or accessory charges to claw back part of a cash discount. Insist on the itemised sheet.
- Check the loyalty condition. Tata’s Rs 1 lakh loyalty bonus requires an existing Tata in the family. Kia’s Rs 20,000 loyalty requires a Kia.
- Do not let the offer choose the variant. A Rs 2.75 lakh benefit on a Rs 29.79 lakh Harrier EV top trim still leaves you at Rs 27 lakh. The Adventure trim at Rs 21.79 lakh with Rs 2.5 lakh off lands at Rs 19.29 lakh for the same 65 kWh battery.
Will October be better?
Probably not for the cars listed here. The pre-update Tata stock will thin out during September, and once it is gone the offers on the new cars are Rs 45,000 to 65,000, not Rs 3 lakh. Festive-season offers in October tend to be exchange bonuses and finance schemes rather than cash, because demand is high and dealers do not need to discount. The exception is if a rival launches something disruptive. Tata’s own Safari EV is due around Diwali and could push Harrier EV offers up in November, but that is a different car at a different price. If you want a pre-update Curvv EV or a Harrier EV at the numbers above, September is the month.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which electric car has the biggest discount in India in September 2026?
The pre-SeriesX Tata Curvv EV carries the largest benefit at up to Rs 3.35 lakh, of which Rs 3 lakh is a direct cash discount. The Tata Harrier EV offers up to Rs 2.75 lakh on mid and top trims, but that requires an exchange and Tata loyalty. The Mahindra XUV400 has a flat Rs 2.5 lakh cash discount.
Do I need to exchange a car to get the Tata Harrier EV discount?
To reach the full Rs 2.75 lakh, yes. The figure is made up of a Rs 1 lakh intervention offer available to everyone, up to Rs 75,000 for exchange or scrappage, and up to Rs 1 lakh loyalty bonus for existing Tata owners. Without a trade-in or a Tata in the family, the benefit is Rs 1 lakh.
Are the September 2026 EV offers valid on the new Punch EV and Tiago EV facelifts?
No. Tata’s published offers on the Punch EV and Tiago EV apply only to pre-facelift stock. The facelifted cars are sold at list price. Similarly, the Curvv EV SeriesX carries a maximum of Rs 65,000 against Rs 3.35 lakh on the pre-SeriesX car.
Is BYD’s 7.77 per cent finance offer better than a bank EV loan?
It depends on your bank. Several public sector banks offer green car loans in the 8.5 to 9.5 per cent range, and a few private lenders go lower for high-credit-score borrowers. On a Rs 25 lakh five-year loan, 7.77 per cent against 9 per cent saves roughly Rs 85,000 in interest, so compare your pre-approved rate before deciding.
